Kraton IMSS™ Technology Wins Ringier Technology Innovation Award

HOUSTON – June 10, 2020 Kraton Corporation (NYSE: KRA), a leading global sustainable producer of specialty polymers and high-value biobased products derived from pine wood pulping co-products, announces that the Kraton IMSS™ Technology won a Ringier Technology Innovation Award – Plastics Industry in the Raw Material & Additives category. The awards will be presented at the 16th Plastics & Rubber Processing Technology and Innovative Materials Application Summit on Thursday, July 2 in Shanghai, China.

“Kraton is honored to receive this prestigious recognition for our unique innovation, which is designed to assist automakers in achieving highly-valued benefits including vehicle weight reduction, safety and manufacturing efficiency,” said Bob Hall, Senior Director, Global Marketing, Kraton. “It is the only solution on the market capable of injection molding large soft skin product designs without the need of a top coat.”

The Kraton IMSS technology enables manufacturers to mold a large thin wall soft skin product design, opening the market to larger applications including door panels, consoles and instrument panels as thin as 0.8mm. It delivers soft-touch haptics and vehicle weight savings using the latest generation of Kraton thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) polymer chemistry and injection molding, the industry’s preferred conversion method.

IMSS products made with Kraton polymer technology enhance the look and feel of interior applications such as instrument panels, trim panels and center consoles. The products also support environmentally-responsible initiatives such as vehicle lightweighting and recyclability, since it can reuse scrap and production trim waste. The Kraton IMSS™ technology can be used on standard equipment and under normal processing conditions, using both skin-only and over-molded injection molding processes.

Since 2006, the Ringier Technology Innovation Awards for industrial manufacturing have been rewarded to a selected group of innovators each year in a number of pillar industries in China. The award’s purpose is to encourage, acknowledge and reward those individuals and companies that introduced and developed a new idea, methodology, product or technology for manufacturing production efficiency, cost effectiveness or user convenience, which might result in energy savings and more responsible clean manufacturing in the industry.
