Highly modified asphalt, HiMA is a tool that can be used to solve a variety of problems in asphalt pavements.  Our HiMA technology for asphalt base courses allows pavement thickness reductions of 30-40% that may deliver cost savings up-front.

  • Lift thicknesses, mix densities, and your typical costs for in-place hot mix.
  • Select whether each lift is already polymer modified asphalt (PMA) or not.
  • Select which lifts you want to convert to HiMA.
  • Adjusted thicknesses for the HiMA mixes to see how the raw material cost varies.

Note:
This is a very simplistic model that only takes into account in-place hot mix costs with the same mix designs and overall pavement design.  It assumes a 1.2 factor cost increase for modified versus unmodified asphalt and a 1.4 factor for HiMA versus unmodified. Other construction considerations will have an impact as well. The model is intended as an example to show trends, not as a tool to predict actual pavement cost.
